City Life

I will say this about living in a city:
Its dirty,
people are hateful,
riding the bus is rarely a pleasure,
my room is tiny and expensive

I can walk home from work.

I can leisurely walk in the rain,

while listening to Por una Cabeza and arrive home to my tiny room from the store with microwaved grilled eggplant parmesan with sour dough bread dripped in Sicilian extra virgine olive oil, a bottle of Malbec from Argentina by candlelight with my window open just listening to the most beautiful part of living in a city.

In this I feel a tiny notion of love.

Its not much but,

I will savor it.

Happy Columbus Day!

North Beach Italian Cultural Festival

Happy Columbus Day!

I was very happy to spend Christopher Columbus Day in North Beach. It is one of the oldest festivals in the country. It also happened with Fleet Week, another long standing tradition in the Bay area. Lots of food, marching bands, cute Marine and Naval girls…and yes the boys in uniform looked nice also.

I will say that I am happy my miscreant and misfit ancestors came over here via the boat. I’d not exist the way I am today without it.

Many good crops and foods that spread through out the old world from the new world that we still use today are:

chili peppers,

tomatoes (pomodori),

cacao (chocolate) (cioccolato),

chewing gum,

Brazil nuts,

strawberries (fragola),

Which leads us to Suisse Chocolate, Kahlua, Marinara Sauce, Pizza, Strawberry Cheesecake, Pecan Pie, Pralines, Guacamole, Pineapple Upside-down Cake, Eggplant Parmigiana, Clove Cigarettes, Sausage & Peppers, Blueberry Muffins, French Fries, Butternut Squash Risotto, Peanut Butter (and Chocolate), Peanut Butter Jelly Sandwiches, Vanilla Cappuccinos, Refried Beans, Zucchini Bread, Fried Green Tomatoes, Mixed Nuts by the snackbowl full, Agave as an alternative sweetener,
(I could go on and on)

We are all of similar blood- mixed and imperfect.
